earth day festival & benefit concert

The Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership (CCIP) announces the Earth Day Fair 2007 to be held at the Colonial Courthouse Courtyard on Saturday, April 14, from 10 am to 4 pm. For the second year in a row, the Earth Day Fair will be held in conjunction with Downtown Inc.'s (formerly Main Street York's) Annual Pear Blossom Festival. Together, the two events will feature tons of activities for kids and grown-ups, including a Scout Scavenger Hunt, live music, historical and architectural walking tours, sidewalk sales, and historical re-enactments. Last year’s event drew over 1000 people and we hope to triple the attendance this year with expanded vendor offerings, more local business participation, and earlier marketing.

NATIVE PLANT SALE & GUEST SPEAKERS AT EARTH DAY FAIR
March 26, 2007 (York, PA)

The Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership’s (CCIP) Annual Earth Day Fair, held in conjunction with Downtown Inc.’s Pear Blossom Festival, is being held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The location is the Colonial Courthouse Commons and the first block of N. The York Friends House, 135 W. Philadelphia Street, will hold a native plant sale the day of the Earth Day Fair.  The Friends have undertaken restoring their property with native plants, and will have a variety of plants suited to the area for sale the day of the event.  Stop by and see how native plants can enhance your natural environment, encourage wildlife to visit your yard, and decrease your water, fertilizer, and pesticide use.

Al Spoo, a local author and specialist on local waterways, habitat, and mollusks, will speak the day of the fair at 1 pm in the Friends House.   Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Michael Helfrich will speak at 3 pm.  Helfrich will discuss the state of the Susquehanna today and what we can look forward to in the future.  The presentations are free and open to the public.  Please join us for a fun day to celebrate the Earth!

COMPUTER RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULED
March 20, 2007 (York, PA)

The Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership’s (CCIP) Annual Earth Day Fair, held in conjunction with Downtown Inc.’s Pear Blossom Festival, will collect computers and computer components on April 14, 2007 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the Earth Day Fair 2007.

Anyone living in the city or businesses with multiple computers can bring them to the Lafayette Parking Lot, Philadelphia St & Pershing Ave, for proper recycling this day.  Computers contain many heavy metals and toxic components that should not be put directly into landfills.  Special handling and recycling is needed to properly dispose of computers, and to reclaim the precious metals used for circuitry.  We will be collecting monitors, keyboards/mouse, towers, mother boards, printers, and scanners.

Please note:  NO OTHER ELECTRONICS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Anyone interested in arranging a business drop off of multiple computers can contact Dale Wiltsie at dale@codoruscreek.com or call 717.718.5431 for more information.  In conjunction with Penn State York’s SCROUNGE program, all computers that can be refurbished will be given to area non-profits.  The rest will be properly recycled.  Residents are responsible for removing any personal and/or sensitive information from computers.

York County is also hosting its annual collection for electronics (including items such as microwaves, clock radios, and TVs) the same day for county residents, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at York County Solid Waste Authority's Management Center parking lot located at 2700 Blackbridge Road, Manchester Township.  Residents can drop off up to 3 items; businesses, however, cannot drop off equipment this day.

The CCIP Annual Earth Day Fair will also feature artisan vendors, food, musical entertainment, historical re-enactors, the Tumble Bus, a working blacksmith, games, and a variety of fun activities for all ages from 10 am to 4 pm. CCIP is a non-profit dedicated to improving the Codorus Creek watershed to benefit the community.
