Codorusfest is our annual environmental education festival and concert. This FREE event will take place from noon to 8 p.m. during the "Olde York Street Faire" at the Codorus Boat Basin and Colonial Courthouse in downtown York. Educational groups, recreational organizations, agricultural groups, government agencies, industry representatives, and local craftspeople are invited to display educational materials and crafts.
The goals of Codorusfest are to:
- Raise public awareness of water and air quality in the Codorus Watershed.
- Raise awareness of economic and health impacts on the community
- Raise awareness of solutions we can implement.
- Individually
- Publicly
- Agriculturally
- Industrially
- Governmentally
- Relate possible alternatives, visions for the future, and examples in other communities of successful clean-ups.
- Celebrate the successes of the Codorus Clean-Up and other revitalization projects.
These goals are introduced through entertaining, public, educational events, such as "Codorusfest," where children and adults can begin learning, or learn more, about what we can do to improve the quality of York County. The goals can next be addressed in schools where units on environmental awareness are now being required by state educational guidelines.
Tables from charities, health organizations, water-sports groups, environmental groups, industry representatives, and craftspeople will be along the Rail Trail between Philadelphia & King Streets, including the Colonial Courthouse lawn. The area of the boat basin will be used for a concert event and more information booths. We hope to educate people – ourselves included – on ways we can reduce impact on the ecosystem of the Codorus Watershed. Equal opportunities will be provided for all "stakeholders" to voice their concerns and plans to help bring back the natural beauty and health of York's main waterway.
