YORK DISPATCH : "Environmentalists Find Water Leak"

From: Michael Helfrich
Time Stamp 2/26/2002 1:32:00 PM

Hey Folks,

We're Big News! Well, news anyhow. Check out the York Dispatch for a little recognition of our efforts. I think its a bigger deal than they make it out to be, it's 1/10th of a percent of the total usage by York Water Company. Murray Fisher, National Field Coordinator for the Waterkeeper Alliance, has now confirmed March 28th, Thursday, as his date to visit us, along with Rick Dove, former Neuse Riverkeeper, head of the Hog Farm Reform Campaign, and new Riverkeeper trainer. One blessing that we must deal with is the growth of interest in this meeting and CCIP. We need a larger room. Any suggestions of a nice 150-person room, indoors but maybe near a natural setting, preferably with chairs and maybe a sink and counter, would be appreciated. That's for March 28th, 6:30-9:00 p.m. As for this meeting on Thursday, at the Martin Library, I would like us all to choose one committee group to brain storm with for ten minutes. This doesn't mean you are on that committee, I just want people to think about
one topic for discussion.

Right now those committees are:
ACTIVITIES - organizing events
ADMINISTRATION - prepare for elections, board style
EDUCATION - create lesson plans, connect with schools
FIELD MONITORING - get trainers and supplies
FUND-RAISING - create list of needs, create events
NON-PROFIT 501 c(3)- prepare and file for non-profit
POLITICAL ACTION - plan campaigns to inform politicians
PUBLIC RELATIONS - inform media of successes and activities
WATERKEEPER PROPOSAL - prepare proposal

These may change, as we feel the need, but it seems like a good place to start. We will then hear from each group for about 2 minutes, and people of like interests can exchange numbers, etc. Well, time to head down to the creek. I will be moving soon, only a block and a half from the Codorus, ssooooo......

I'll see you along the Codorus,
Michael
