From: Codorus Creek
Time Stamp 1/24/2005 10:28:38 AM

Greg Maroney, friend of CCIP and accomplished pianist, will play a benefit show at the Capitol Theater in York for CCIP. The show will be Saturday, April 9 at 8 pm. Tickets are $20. Give CCIP a call for tickets or info. 717 848 1900.

Contemporary piano composer and local York County resident Greg Maroney writes songs that have a warmth and yearning that speak to the listener. Greg has been composing and recording on his own independent label since 1995, with four CDs released to date and a fifth in the works. His music has been compared to that of David Lanz and Jim Brickman, but is infused with its own unique styling, melodies and themes. Kathy Parsons of Solo Piano Publications has said:

"Greg Maroney captures a full spectrum of emotions and musical colors, and presents them in an accessible form that deepens with each listening".

When performing, Greg often relates the story behind the song - many of which arise from personal experiences and the wonder of the surrounding rural countryside. The stories add to the depth and understanding of his songs and add an enjoyable personal touch to the performance.

Greg's study of traditional Indian music in the 70's and street performances on the sitar and saz flavor some of his music. However, Greg is well grounded in the classics and has studied piano since the age of 5. He now performs at various local restaurants, weddings, private parties and has made frequent appearances at the Governor’s Mansion in Harrisburg for Governors Ridge, Schweiker and Rendell. He has performed at the Emergency Nurses Association National Conference in Philadelphia and has played for several Pennsylvania State Nurses Association events. In addition to being a musician he is an emergency room nurse at a local trauma center in south central Pennsylvania.

Greg lives in a 100 year old farmhouse outside of Wellsville, Pennsylvania, that he and his wife are restoring to its original design, where they also tend to dogs, cats, countless chickens and a large vegetable garden. You can find more information about his music and CDs at www.gregmaroney.com.

Listening to Greg Maroney's music, you will find yourself reminiscing, smiling, waltzing and dreaming. The wonderful melodies will stay with you and you will discover new layers and rich textures to the music with each listening.
